Salmon River Gorge
1963 Naming Expedition
Frustration Falls
This close-up view of the falls shows four members of the 1963 OGNB naming expedition on a ledge above the narrow box canyon that Frustration Falls spills into. During high water, the exposed basalt terracesof the falls are completely overwhelmed by the river and the central bowl becomes a huge rooster tail, as seen during the April 1983 expedition. Note the tiny ribbon of water that streams across the upper right portion of the falls. It is unknown how the 1963 explorers on the naming expedition reached this spot in the Salmon River Gorge.
