Salmon River Gorge March 1983 Expedition Potholes Area

Another view of the potholes stretch of the Salmon. In this section, the entire river flows through this ten-foot wide chasm. Judging by the size of the river as it enters this channel, we estimated its depth to be at least fifteen feet. The eddy at the lower portion of this photo shows one of the potholes, where a large rounded boulder continued to grind a circular path into the bedrock.
