Hundreds
of lakes dot the mile-high Olallie Lake Scenic Area, located
at the crest of the Cascades, between Mount Hood and Mount Jefferson.
Pictured here are me (left) and friend Jon at Olallie Lake, the
largest and most popular lake in the district. Here, a rustic
mountain store provides essential supplies, and a string of small
cabins and yurts can be rented for those who want to spend time
fishing or canoeing at the lake. Boats and canoes can also be
rented here. This is a good base camp for anyone who wants to
spend a few days exploring the trails that radiate into the Olallie
backcountry. |
