Ron Falls Overlook
After the steep, slippery climb from Dan Falls, we reached another familiar spot: the overlook of Ron Falls, with Dave Falls just beyond. This is the area where Maynard Drawson described the route passing through "a hole in the cliff". Ted had come close to finding it last year, when he explored the area around Ron Falls. But Alan had found the real thing, photographed it, and was about to lead us through on his "return to Maynard's Cave".

First, we would descend from the overlook, and cross Ron Falls between the two tiers. Alan can be seen leading the way (below, left), followed by Matt (below, right) and the rest of the group. Once across, the route enters a huge cavern veiled by a wall of Pacific yew.
