Deer Fern

The forest floor of the preserve is carpeted with deer fern, an especially stately fern species that grows from seal level almost to timberline in the Northwest forests. Pictured here are the sterile fronds that hang gracefully from each clump. Mature plants also feature fertile fronds that stand stiffly at the center of each fern clump.
