Ballard Locks

The Adventurer sailed from the docks in Seattle's Union Bay (above) and moved toward Puget Sound, via the historic Ballard Locks. This view also shows the kayaks that are stored to the rear of the bridge deck. Below, passengers Joanne and Bill watch the progress as the crew navigates the ship through the locks, a vertical drop of nearly 20 feet.
A view back to the Ballard Locks and the unusual Ballard railroad bridge, as a barge pushes a load of aggregate under its unique ballast-tilt lift span.
